Belal Muhammad challenges ‘trash’ Colby Covington to RAF wrestling

by

Belal Muhammad hopes for the opportunity to settle a long-standing grudge – on the wrestling mats.

Muhammad fell short against two-time NCAA Division-I freestyle wrestling champion and current Real American Freestyle welterweight titleholder David Carr at RAF 4 this past Saturday in Fishers, Ind.

The former UFC welterweight champion enjoyed challenging himself, despite not getting his hand raised.

“We had a wrestling match, it was a great time even though it wasn’t a W,” Muhammad said on his YouTube channel. “But I mean, we’re going against the best guy in the world. Shoutout to RAF for putting on an amazing show. … Two-time national champ, his dad’s an Olympian, so it wasn’t an easy task. We knew that, but I’m not afraid of a challenge. He was definitely fast, it was cool, definitely a good experience.”

Now, Muhammad has turned his attention to Colby Covington, whom he’s been calling out since 2017. The pair may never meet in the octagon, but Muhammad wants Covington on the wrestling mats. Covington meets Luke Rockhold Jan. 10 at RAF 5 from Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Fla.

“Hopefully they give me another shot,” Muhammad said of RAF. “Hopefully, we get an easier guy. We got, what’s his name? Colby Covington. He’s going against Rockhold in Miami in January, maybe we’ll be there. Maybe we’ll get the winner of that one. If that was the best guy in the world, and we did well against him, we’ll see what we’ll do against the trash of the division, Colby.”
