Big blow for SA! Lungi Ngidi RULED OUT of England T20Is, replacement named

South Africa National Cricket Team premier pacer Lungi Ngidi has been ruled out of the three-match T20I series against the England National Cricket Team.

This comes as a massive blow for the South Africa National Cricket Team, who have lost several cricketers due to different types of injuries in the ongoing cricket season.

Nandre Burger named Lungi Ngidi’s replacement

The T20I series opener between the Three Lions and the Proteas is set to get underway on Wednesday, September 10, at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. The second T20I will be held at Old Trafford in Manchester on Friday, September 12, and the third game will be held at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Sunday, September 14.

Meanwhile, Lungi Ngidi was set to feature in the starting playing XI for the Proteas in the T20I series against the English team.

However, he has suffered a right hamstring strain, which has ruled him out of the entire series. Lungi Ngidi picked up the injury while training on Tuesday, and the scans confirmed that the matter is serious.

To deal with Lungi Ngidi’s absence, Cricket South Africa has named the left-arm pacer Nandre Burger as his replacement in the squad.

“Proteas Men’s fast bowler Lungi Ngidi has been ruled out of the T20 International (T20I) series against England with a right hamstring strain,” CSA said in an official statement.

“He sustained the injury during training on Tuesday at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, and subsequent scans confirmed its extent. Ngidi will return home on Thursday. Nandre Burger has been named as his replacement and will join the squad ahead of the second T20I in Manchester.”

We’ve had torrential rain – Ian Ward

The toss between England and South Africa has been delayed due to rain in Cardiff. Speaking on Sky Sports, Ian Ward said:

“Sadly, here in Cardiff, no one is going to be doing anything for a while, except huddling under an umbrella or finding cover wherever possible.

“We’ve had torrential rain. When it has stopped and cleared up, more rain has come through. We’re were making progress before this, latest shower hit.

“It’s torrential and, needless to say, the toss has been delayed, therefore the start of this first T20 has also been delayed. This is the scene in Cardiff and it is not a pretty one.”

I think we will probably get a reduced game later – Nasser Hussain

Meanwhile, Nasser Hussain said that a reduced game is likely on the cards because of the persistent rain in the city. He said:

“The rain was torrential on the train to Cardiff. It’s very wet out there.

“The forecast for later in the evening is better, there’s supposed to be some sun. But any more heavy rain and I think we might be struggling. At the moment, I think we will probably get a reduced game later.”

Talking further about South Africa’s injury concerns, David Miller has been ruled out of the England T20Is due to a hamstring injury. Temba Bavuma is also out of cricket due to a strain, and star pacer Kagiso Rabada is being kept in cotton wool.
