While it wasn’t the debut he or anyone was hoping for against Albany, Mark Gronowski is well-respected inside the Iowa football locker room.
All reports are that Gronowski is a stand-up guy and a great teammate, which are fantastic characteristics for a quarterback to have. While you obviously need to see more on the field, it’s clear his Hawkeye teammates believe in him.

As the annual Cy-Hawk game nears as Fox’s “Big Noon Kickoff” this coming Saturday, Iowa fans are set to get a behind-the-scenes look at Gronowski’s family life and his relationship with his older brother, Ryan.
According to Matt Weitzel, Iowa’s associate athletics director for strategic communications, Fox is planning to air a feature on Gronowski’s relationship with his brother Ryan during Saturday morning’s “Big Noon Kickoff.”
Ryan Gronowski, Mark’s brother, has epilepsy and intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Despite that, he’s overcome it to become a Special Olympian flag football player and Mark’s biggest fan. Ryan and Mark were close growing up and still maintain that special bond, which Fox will be sharing with Hawkeye fans and its college football audience on Saturday.

This is shaping up to be a heartwarming and inspiring story featuring Iowa’s newest quarterback. And it serves as a good reminder that these college athletes are people, too.
“Big Noon Kickoff” will start at 9 a.m. CT on Saturday, live from Ames, Iowa. Hawkeye fans are not going to want to miss this feature on Mark and Ryan Gronowski.
