Blake Monroe is keeping the heat on this holiday seasonβboth in the ring and on Instagram.
After reports surfaced about a legit injury during her December 16 match against Thea Hail, the former NXT Womenβs North American Champion dropped a red-hot Christmas-themed photo shoot on Instagram β and itβs turning heads across the wrestling world.
Wearing festive red lingerie and biting down on a candy cane, Monroe posed with the NXT Womenβs North American Title draped across her, proving she hasnβt lost her fire. She didnβt say much in the captions, but the message was loud and clear.
Monroeβs post comes right after Fightful Select reported that she was actually injured during the match with Thea Hail. The finish went off-script when Hail landed a senton that knocked the wind out of Monroe, preventing her from kicking out as planned.
βA number of sources have claimed that Blake Monroe said she was injured after the spot, and specifically was unhappy about how things unfolded.β
The injury appeared serious enough that Monroe told people backstage she was hurt βon the spot in the first Hail match.β Though WWE hasnβt officially confirmed the extent, Monroe later posted a photo on Twitter with KT tape wrapped around her ribs β and that spoke volumes.
Meanwhile, referee Felix Fernandez was caught in the crossfire. Although WWE officials like Matt Bloom and Shawn Michaels backed him for following proper βtreat-it-like-a-shootβ protocol, others in NXT were reportedly frustrated that he didnβt check on Monroe before making the count.
βMatt Bloom, Shawn Michaels, and other referees were said to have told Fernandez he handled things the right way, and claim that there wasnβt anything he didnβt check on or didnβt listen to.β
To add more chaos, WWE production initially played Monroeβs entrance music post-match, thinking sheβd retained. That mistake was quickly corrected when Hailβs theme blared through the speakers β confirming the title had changed hands.
Despite the drama, WWE is moving full speed ahead with the storyline. On the December 23 episode of NXT, Thea Hail accepted Monroeβs challenge for a rematch at New Yearβs Evil on January 6.
But if Blakeβs Instagram post is anything to go by, sheβs already staging a comeback β one seductive photo at a time. Monroe may be healing, but sheβs far from finished. Between the injury, the controversy, and her holiday shoot, sheβs still commanding the limelightβ and doing it her way.
