Boise State Football Offense Preview 2025: The Broncos Move On Without Their Star originally appeared on College Football News.

It’s all so easy.

Hand the ball off to your superstar running back, let him give you plenty of easy third down chances, convert those chances, hold the ball for almost 32 minutes a game, don’t force anything, control the game, the tempo, and the narrative, keep your defense rested … repeat.

The Boise State offense was fantastic. It stalled out a little bit late in the year, but the formula got the team a Mountain West title and into the College Football Playoff. But now, that superstar running back is gone, so …

You don’t just replace Asthon Jeanty. The 2,601 yards he busted out were more than all but 19 other teams generated, he ran for 29 touchdowns, and he should’ve won the Heisman. Now he’s a Las Vegas Raider, and the Broncos need to figure out how to replace the production.

Sire Gaines is a terrific-looking redshirt freshman, getting his feet wet as the No. 2 back last season with 156 yards and a score. He’s got power and the build to be a workhorse, but Malik Sherrod (Fresno State) is a proven back who ran for 966 yards and nine touchdowns two years ago before missing most of last year.

The quarterback position was supposed to go to former USC super-recruit Malachi Nelson, but Maddux Madsen took it over – Nelson is now a UTEP Miner – and took full advantage of everyone worrying about Jeanty. He threw for over 3,000 yards and 23 touchdowns, ran for five scores, and kept the mistakes to a minimum.

Most of the top targets are back. First Team All-Mountain West tight end Matt Lauter caught 47 passes and a team-high seven scores, and Latrell Caples is back for the inside after making. 38 grabs and five scores.

The corps lost Prince Strachan to USC, so the pressure is on former Ole Miss Rebel and Texas A&M Aggie Chris Marshall to use his 6-3 size to shine on the outside.

Someone had to blast away for Jeanty. Three of the top five blockers are back, starting with all-star Kage Casey at left tackle. There’s a little shuffling for the interior, but Hall Schmidt is a veteran tackle and guard Roger Carreon joins him on the right side.
