Booker T didn’t get to the top of the wrestling world by playing it safe—and when it came to racism in the business, he had one rule that never failed him.
Appearing on The Underground Dialogue podcast, the six-time world champion opened up about how he confronted discrimination throughout his career, revealing a personal code he lived by whenever he felt something was off.
“Bro, you know, a lot of people always ask me that question, you know, and of course I’ve had stuff to deal with throughout my time in professional wrestling, but I’ve always dealt with it straight up, head on. If it was something racial, I’ve always dealt with it straight on.”
That’s when Booker dropped his powerful, take-no-prisoners philosophy.
“I got a rule: If you’re 99%, you keep your mouth shut. If you’re 100%, you speak up 100% of the time — even if you get fired, you speak up on it.”
He wasn’t interested in walking on eggshells or protecting egos. He knew his value—and wasn’t afraid to ruffle feathers.
“I’ve always been the one to raise my hand in the meetings. They hated me for it because I was going to raise my hand and say something. But I always knew I was talent. I was better than them suckers, man.”
Booker made it clear that no amount of backstage heat would silence him if something needed to be said.
“You wasn’t going to fire me — you was making money off me. I don’t care about getting heat with the boys because the boss signs the checks.”
The WWE legend didn’t just survive the game—he rewrote the playbook. His rule for confronting racism isn’t just a soundbite—it’s a message to every performer who ever felt they had to stay quiet to stay employed.
