Brandon Finney Jr. wins Ducks Wire Player of the Game vs. Texas Tech

by

It’s official — the Oregon Ducks are headed back to the College Football Playoff Semifinals for the first time since 2014. They just went into a neutral-site game, where it seemed like they were at a disadvantage, and had their way with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, who dominated the field during the regular season.

After an uneven performance last week, Oregon’s defense took it personal and shutout Texas Tech thanks to a handful of takeaways. Sensational freshman cornerback Brandon Finney Jr. accounted for three of them, making him this week’s Ducks Wire Player of the Game. He had two game-changing interceptions to go along with a fumble recovery and sticky coverage on the perimeter like always.

Finney Jr. has already been recognized as one of the best true freshmen in the nation, but he may establishing himself as one of the top corners altogether. The Ducks’ offense certainly has to be more efficient going forward, but it should give them peace of mind knowing that their defense, and specifically their secondary, has the ability to put offenses in a straitjacket.

Time will tell if Oregon eventually wins the National Championship, but there is no doubt that they have a championship-caliber player in Finney Jr.
