Breanna Stewart Gets Injury Update Before Lynx-Liberty Game

by

The New York Liberty have been without WNBA superstar Breanna Stewart since she suffered a right knee bone bruise in a loss to the Los Angeles Sparks on July 26. Since her injury, the reigning WNBA champions have notched a 4-6 record and are currently on a two-game losing skid.

That being said, the Liberty received some positive news regarding their franchise centerpiece on Monday.

Stewart was a full participant in Monday’s practice session, running with the second unit before Tuesday evening’s matchup against the Minnesota Lynx. The seven-time WNBA All Star is targeting a return to action on Aug. 27 — her 31st birthday.

Through 24 games in her 10th WNBA season, Stewart is averaging 18.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.4 steals per game. Liberty head coach Sandy Brondello is confident in the progression of her two-time WNBA MVP.

“She looked good,” Brondello said after practice on Monday. “We didn’t really go live, so we’ll keep building her up these next few days. She feels good, she looks good.”

The Liberty currently hold No. 3 position in the WNBA standings with a 21-13 record. Stewart and her squad began the 2025 season with a nine-game winning streak.

After Tuesday’s matchup against the No. 1-ranked Lynx, the Liberty will face off against the Chicago Sky on Aug. 21. Stewart’s next opportunity to return is a matchup against the Atlanta Dream on Aug. 23.
