The return of Brooks Koepka caused an avalanche of reactions and most are happy about the return of the legendary golfer.
The first tournament for him was Torrey Pines, and although the 35-year-old did not excel, he managed to achieve a solid result and at least have a starting point for what follows.
Most watched his performances from round to round, analyzing his form and wondering how much he could really achieve this season.
Rex Hoggard, speaking on the Golf Channel podcast, had words of praise for Brooks, particularly enthusiastic about his press conference.
“I think the positive was, first, the press conference on Tuesday. He won the press conference, we use it all the time when talking about football coaches, but I do believe Brooks sat in that chair and did what he had to do. He took the hard questions and showed a level of contrition that I admitted I didn’t think he had,” he said.
“Let’s face it, the player that left the PGA Tour in 2022, I don’t think anybody was going to say is contrite. I didn’t think that was going to be one of the 14 clubs in his bag, and he did a really good job in that press conference and the rest of the week.
He had a really good interview with Todd Lewis following his round on Thursday. I think some of the things he said following his round on Thursday were even more interesting."
Brooks Koepka's future
He put special emphasis on Brooks Koepka's statement in which the 35-year-old openly said that he was nervous and that he really cares about the PGA Tour and the fans, especially their opinion.
Rex Hoggard feels that Brooks is not the same person he was when he left the PGA Tour.
The American golfer does not hide that he has serious ambitions this season, but he is aware that he will encounter difficulties at first, mostly because there are many unknowns for him and it seems that he still has a period of getting to know the golfers on the PGA Tour.
Brooks is delighted with the reception from PGA Tour fans, although he was skeptical about whether the atmosphere would be hostile or not. Ultimately, he can be satisfied with the way he was welcomed.
Such a welcome will certainly serve as a motivation for him to try to give his best and even change the perception among those who do not like him.
