PROVIDENCE – Friday night brought a rare result in the men’s basketball series between Brown and Bryant.
The road team has dominated in recent seasons, and the majority of those meetings have been tense to the final whistle. That wasn’t the case at Pizzitola Center, with the Bears remaining in command virtually from start to finish on their home floor.

Brown found some unexpected touch from 3-point range and won the battle on the glass decisively. That added up to a 75-56 cruise past the Bulldogs on Dec. 5, a victory that kicked off a men’s rivalry weekend in the state.
Brown’s Jeremiah Jenkins celebrates as his team cruised past Bryant on Friday night in Providence.
The Bears connected on a season-high 12 3-pointers and controlled the margins off turnovers (22-6), on second chances (13-3) and off the bench (32-11). Bryant had no way back after falling into a 60-40 hole with 12:33 to play, as a Malcom Wrisby-Jefferson layup gave Brown its largest lead.
“Really pleased with our overall effort, energy, approach,” Brown coach Mike Martin said. “We can be a really good defensive team. We’ve seen that.”

Kino Lilly Jr. connected on a 3-pointer in the final seconds last season to help the Bears escape Smithfield with a 76-75 triumph. It was the fifth straight road win between the two teams and a fourth game in that span decided by single digits. The Bulldogs were doomed here by 8-for-31 shooting from deep, just two players with more than five points and a minus-9 finish on the glass.
“One of the worst games in my career that I’ve ever coached,” Bryant coach Jamion Christian said. “Disappointed in our team’s performance. Disappointed in our ability to rise to the occasion.
“We’re going to be judged by how we’re going to learn from this opportunity. We’re going to need to start learning quickly.”
Brown closed just 3-for-16 from deep in a 66-56 loss at the University of Rhode Island on Tuesday night. The Bears matched that number of makes prior to the first media timeout and surpassed it in barely six minutes against Bryant. Luke Paragon’s pair of early jumpers took the lid off the basket and Brown eventually closed at 54.5% from beyond the arc.

“It’s huge,” Brown guard Adrian Uchidiuno said. “Especially guys like Luke – when he starts getting it going it kind of opens it up for me as well.”
Bryant’s Ashley Sims (0) heads to the hoop after getting past Landon Lewis of Brown.
Isaiah Langham’s putback gave the Bears a 17-4 lead before the Bulldogs mounted their only real push of the night. Quincy Allen netted the bulk of his 15 points during the following run, including a two-hand slam on the break to make it a 22-18 game with 9:34 left in the first half. Bryant managed just 10 more points before entering the locker room facing a 41-28 deficit.
“You’ve got to go out and play with a level of toughness, physicality and fight,” Christian said. “We just didn’t have any response for that tonight.”

Brown (4-6) maintained a double-digit lead through the final 20 minutes to avoid any possible late tension. Timofei Rudovskii’s 3-pointer from the left corner was about as tight as the Bulldogs could make it – it was a 62-50 game with 7:54 left. The Bears simply held firm from there while winning in their first home appearance since a Nov. 16 blowout of Holy Cross.
“In order to win the Ivy League we’ve got to start winning now,” Brown forward Landon Lewis said. Winning is a habit the same way losing is a habit.
“I think our energy is different. Our talk is different.”
Bryant (3-7) is still waiting for a first road success after seven tries, and the last setback was a 56-53 defeat at Harvard. Wednesday’s short trip to Iona awaits before the Bulldogs host Marist and enter exam break.

“We compete well in practice and we’ve competed well all year in all the games we’ve played,” Christian said. “We’ll have to dive into it.”
