On Monday, Bruce Feldman of the Athletic released his “Freaks List”, as he does every year. The Texas Longhorns have one entry who comes in at No. 17. Offensive lineman Trevor Goosby, who many believe is going to be the starting left tackle in 2025, received the honor.
Feldman is quite high on Goosby. And he’s not the only one.
“Once ranked as the 34th best offensive tackle prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, Goosby has proven to be a terrific evaluation. As a redshirt freshman last season, he started two games, one at left tackle and the other at right,” Feldman said. “PFF gave Goosby an 80.8 pass blocking grade for the season, which was higher than Cameron Williams, Texas’ starter at right tackle, although the freshman had a much smaller sample size.
“At 6-foot-7 1/3, 311 pounds, Goosby clocked a flying 10-yard sprint of 1.44 seconds, grading at an extremely high level in terms of his acceleration for an offensive lineman. His max speed of 20 mph this offseason was almost as impressive,” Feldman said. “He bench pressed 365 pounds and jumped the highest of any of the Longhorn O-linemen. His leaping ability and body control are also evident in this video of him doing a 360-dunk last spring.”

Trevor Goosby is excited to see this group next month. He likes the mindset of the unit.
He spoke with the media last week once fall camp got started and gave his assessment of the crew early.
“I think we’re a really gritty o-line, ground-and-pound,” Goosby said. “We have that ‘move somebody off the ball’ establishment about ourselves and identity about ourselves. That’s what we pride ourselves on.”
Kyle Flood, Texas’ offensive line coach is also intrigued by his new-look group. After losing four starters to graduation and the NFL, the Longhorns are looking to pick up where it left off last season when the unit was a Joe Moore Award finalist.
“We’ve got some guys with a little less history and a little more to prove,” Flood said. “That can be a great motivator for them, for sure. The standards we have here as a program don’t change.”

Kyle Flood and head coach Steve Sarkisian have now been together for nine years.
The two were at the NFL level together with the Atlanta Falcons before heading to Tuscaloosa to coach with Nick Saban at Alabama. After leaving the Crimson Tide, Flood joined Sarkisian at Texas. Flood believes this is crucial to keeping the program on the right trajectory. And it starts with trust.
“To be with somebody for nine years…it’s a lot more than just the football,” Flood said. “There’s a personal connection that we have outside of football”
The Longhorns are going to hope this tight-knit bond continues in 2025 as Texas tries to make it three-straight College Football Playoff appearances.
