Welcome to the Top-10, Alexander Bublik!
The high-flying Kazakhstani claimed his ninth career title – and fifth since last June – on Sunday in Hong Kong, taking out top-seeded Lorenzo Musetti, 7-6(2), 6-3.
His exploits ensure him a Top-10 ranking on Monday – the 28-year-old will rise to No.10, and become the first player from Kazakhstan to achieve the feat.
“The only goal for this season was to achieve the Top 10 and in the first week I have won the title and I am into the Top 10,” Bublik said. “If you had told me that last April I would never have believed you. But it is a pleasure and I hope to continue in the same way.”
Bublik fired ten aces and saved two of three break points, surviving a trade of breaks early in the second set after taking the first set in a tiebreak.
Along the way he played the point of the tournament, turning in a dazzling defensive point that showed off all of his shotmaking prowess.
Musetti was seeking his third career title, and first since 2022.
