The WNBA and the WNBA players’ union are reportedly far apart on a new collective bargaining agreement, and the players are gearing up for a potential lockout. That includes Caitlin Clark.

Speaking to reporters this week, Clark spoke to reporters and gave her thoughts on the looming lockout threat. Clark made it clear that she fully stands behind the players, but also pointed out that they need to find a way to get back onto the court. She said that

“This is the biggest moment the WNBA has ever seen and it’s not something that can be messed up. We’re gonna fight for everything we deserve but at the same time we need to play basketball… that’s how you make the money,” Clark said.

The Voice of Reason

WNBA fans applauded Clark for both supporting the players and recognizing that they need to be more realistic in their approach to the negotiations.

“It’s one of those things where I just wish everyone listened to her. She knows,” one user said.

“As always, CC is the voice of reason. Let’s get that CBA done!” wrote another.

“Caitlin has the wisdom bigger than all the WNBA combined,” a third wrote.

“EXACTLY!!!… let’s just get it done… the WNBA can’t blow this opportunity with the popularity its getting now.”

“YES! Caitlin ALWAYS gets it! Only if the women at the negotiating table had her brain and mindset, the deal would have been done already!”

Ultimately, Clark is just one person. More importantly, she isn’t one of the people at the negotiating table for the WNBPA. That could change in the future, but for the time being she may not have enough cache with her contemporaries to alter the outcome.

Hopefully both the WNBA and the WNBPA are able to see the light before a lockout is forced into effect.
