Despite being ruled out due to injury, Caitlin Clark went viral during the Indiana Fever’s win over the Phoenix Mercury on Wednesday night.

There was a lot of intrigue surrounding the Fever’s showdown with the Mercury because it marked DeWanna Bonner’s return to Indiana. She was waived by the Fever in late June after a rocky start to the 2025 season. Prior to her release, there were some rumblings about her being upset with her role. However, the three-time WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year shot down that rumor once she signed with the Mercury.
“That wasn’t ever the issue. That’s never been me,” Bonner said. “I have no problems coming off the bench. I have never been that player. I don’t feel like I have that reputation.”
Bonner received a cold welcome when she stepped on the court at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Wednesday night. It turns out she was also trolled by one of her former teammates.

During the third quarter of the Fever-Mercury game, Bonner missed a fadeaway, got the ball back and had her second attempt blocked by Indiana’s suffocating defense. Clark, who has been sidelined since July 15, was fired up about that sequence.
The former No. 1 pick jumped out of her seat and started waving her right hand in the air after Bonner got rejected at the rim. A few seconds later, Clark fired up the crowd as the Fever were heading into a TV timeout.

Indiana fans couldn’t help but laugh at Clark’s behavior on the bench.
“Caitlin reacted like she had just smelled someone lying,” one fan said.
“Did Bonner diss the team after she got cut? Seems personal,” a second fan wrote.
“CC is just going after DB haha. Well done,” another fan commented.
Bonner’s teammates on the Mercury didn’t say anything about Clark’s antics. They did, however, rip Indiana’s fan base.
“I just don’t understand,” Kahleah Cooper said. “Like, she’s a legend. All the things she’s done for the league — the disrespect, I just can’t get down with it. It’s very distasteful what their fan base is doing when it comes to DB, because she is just the sweetest soul. The situation didn’t work for her and it wasn’t what she wanted or whatever, but we don’t need all of that. It’s just unnecessary.”

The Fever and Mercury will meet again on Aug. 7, but that matchup will take place in Phoenix.
