‘California Kid’ Returns! | MMA Mania

by

Urijah Faber will be returning to combat sports early next year.

This is according to an announcement at Faber’s A1 Combat event Friday night in Wheatland, Calif., as A1 Combat president, Tom Anderson, took center stage to reveal the promotion’s plan for their upcoming fight card on Jan. 30.

Details are scarce at this time, but Anderson announced that Faber will be part of a special main event “superfight.” It’s unknown at this time who “The California Kid” might face in his return and if the ruleset will in fact be mixed martial arts (MMA), but the former UFC superstar appears ready for his long-awaited comeback.

Check out Friday’s announcement below:

Faber, 46, made headlines earlier this week when he re-connected with former UFC rival, Dominick Cruz, to bury the hatchet and discuss their old fights. Fight fans weren’t expecting Faber to springboard from podcast guest to professional fighter all in the same week, but that is exactly what the former WEC featherweight champion is doing.

While Faber has mixed in some grappling competitions over the past few years he hasn’t competed inside of a MMA cage since a knockout loss to Petr Yan all the way back at UFC 245 nearly six years ago. It’s unknown at this time what Faber has left in the tank and who might be pegged as his comeback opponent.
