Callaway Gets Precious With Chrome Tour Small Dog Yorkie Edition

by

It’s still August, which means it’s still National Dog Month, and if you thought Callaway was done after the Corgi and Dachshund editions, think again.

Sticking with the small dog theme, Callaway has just released (delicately, into a Louis Vuitton carrier) its Yorkie-themed Chrome Tour golf balls.

Why Yorkies?

Yorkies always seemed like the bait you use to catch a bigger dog. But they’re sweet, I guess, and people absolutely lose their minds over them. They’re the participation trophy of the dog world—small, shiny, and usually held by someone who’s way too proud of it.

Plus, there’s something fitting about playing a ball themed after a dog that spends more time in a purse than on the ground, much like most of our golf balls spend more time in the woods than on the fairway.

A brief aside … My cousin has a Yorkie. He’s obsessed with it. He used to either take it everywhere or have his mom come over and dog-sit while he went out. Super-weird situation. The dog is skittish, but that’s probably because it doesn’t know what to do when its feet are actually on the ground. All of this says more about my cousin than the dog.

I digress …

Is There Any Performance Value Here?

You may find yourself asking if these Chrome Tour Yorkie golf balls will help you play better.

Unlikely.

What if I told you the silky coat pattern of a Yorkie helps reduce drag for extra distance? I made that up, but that’s what you could tell people when they ask why you’re playing a ball that looks like it should come with a matching bow.

Sadly, that’s my best Yorkie joke right there, although it’s probably accurate for 85 percent of the Yorkies on Instagram).

Not a Purse Dog Person?

Not a Yorkie fan? Don’t worry. August isn’t over yet and who knows what else Callaway has hiding in their designer dog bag. Something tells me there’s at least one more coming.

The Tiny Truth

The Chrome Tour Small Dog Yorkie maintains all the tech specs of the regular Chrome Tour. The only difference is that now your ball looks like it needs a grooming appointment before you smash it with your driver.

Again, not that I’m suggesting you hit your dog.

The Bottom Line

I don’t know if you’re a Yorkie fan or not. They’re fine, I suppose, though I’ve never understood spending $2,000 on something that weighs less than a sleeve of golf balls.

Anyway, if you think Callaway’s latest round of dog balls is for you, I suggest you act quickly. Callaway’s dog editions (in all sizes) typically sell out quickly and end up commanding ridiculous sums on eBay.

Then again, Yorkie people are used to overpaying for tiny things.
