Carlos Alcaraz will start his fifth reign on the ATP throne on Monday! The 22-year-old will start his 37th week as world no. 1 after beating Jannik Sinner 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory in the US Open final.
The two great rivals chased their eighth Major title in a row and battled for the ATP throne. Carlos outplayed his opponent and ended Sinner's streak of 65 weeks as world no. 1.
The Spaniard has been a player to beat in 2025, lifting seven ATP titles and dominating the ATP Race. However, he needed over eight months to pass the Italian and became the world's best player after exactly two years.

Jannik defended his Australian Open title in January. He stood nearly 5000 ATP points ahead of Carlos at that moment, and the Spaniard failed to take advantage of his rival's suspension.
Sinner missed three months and four Masters 1000 events but extended his ATP throne reign. The two rivals have been battling since May, embracing five straight finals and dominating the rest of the field.
The Italian had a 3400 points lead over the Spaniard after winning Wimbledon. However, Carlos bested his great rival in the title matches in Cincinnati and the US Open, extending his incredible streak and becoming world no. 1.

Alcaraz is 61-6 in 2025, leading the Tour with seven ATP titles, including five notable ones. The 22-year-old is 2600 points clear of Sinner on the ATP Race list, looking good to wrap up his second year-end no. 1 season.
Before that, the young gun will enjoy his sixth Major crown and a couple of weeks off the court before returning to action at the ATP 500 event in Tokyo, seeking the third title of the year at that level after Rotterdam and Queen's.
Carlos needs a couple of more good results in the rest of the season to defend his advantage over Jannik. He will likely make pushes at the remaining two Masters 1000 events in Shanghai and Paris, hoping to add more trophies to his growing collection.
