Carlos Alcaraz arrives in Spain following historic AO triumph – His first words

Following his more than welcomed duties in Melbourne on Monday, Carlos Alcaraz arrived in Spain on Tuesday.

World no. 1 returned to his country with the seventh Major trophy in his CV and as the youngest owner of the Career Grand Slam.

Carlos wrote history books at Melbourne Park, besting seven rivals and lifting his first Australian Open crown. Thus, the 22-year-old completed all four Major titles and became the youngest player in history to achieve that.

The El Palmar native looks forward to embrace a couple of days off the court and make a proper celebration of his historic success with his friends and family. As was expected, he withdrew from the ATP 500 event in Rotterdam.

Thus, the Spaniard will enjoy a couple of weeks off the court before heading to Doha for another ATP 500 tournament where he may face Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner en route to the title.

Carlos headed to Melbourne without Juan Carlos Ferrero in his coaching box but with massive confidence following the off-season. World no. 1 performed at his best in the pivotal matches and lifted the desired trophy in style.

He ousted Tommy Paul and Alex de Minaur en route to the semi-final. There, Alcaraz battled against Alexander Zverev and physical issues in a memorable 6-4, 7-6, 6-7, 6-7, 7-5 victory after five hours and 27 minutes!

The youngster struggled with discomfort in his right leg since the third set. However, he kept his focus and erased a 5-4 deficit in the decider to rattle off the final three games and advance into the title clash.

Carlos faced the ten-time champion Novak Djokovic and earned a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 victory for his first trophy in Melbourne and a place in history books. The Spaniard stayed composed after a slow start.

He dominated sets two and three to build the advantage and provided a late break in the fourth to oust the legend and earn his seventh Major crown at 22.

"I'm going to rest now, it's about time. I'm feeling great and very happy. I'm going to celebrate at home, which is the best place to be; we could not celebrate in Australia because my body could not take it anymore," Carlos Alcaray said.
