The final Masters 1000 of the season – the Rolex Paris Masters – will take place in a new venue from this year and there are all the premises to witness an electrifying event. The only forfeits announced for the moment have been those of Novak Djokovic, Tommy Paul and Arthur Fils, while the top two players in the ATP ranking Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will be present.
The Spanish ace has never gone beyond the quarterfinals in this tournament (reached in the 2022 edition, when he was forced to retire during the match against Holger Rune due to an abdominal injury), while the 24-year-old Italian has never gone beyond the round of 16 in the French capital and did not participate in the last edition due to illness.
Alcaraz practices in Paris
The 22-year-old from Murcia has already arrived in Paris after practicing hard in Spain alongside his team, having decided not to play in either Basel or Vienna ATP this week (unlike his huge rival, who is currently playing in the Austrian capital).
The current world No.1 – who missed the latest Masters 1000 in Shanghai due to a left ankle injury he suffered in Tokyo (where he won the title) – is not at the top of his shape yet and he also showed it during the 'Six Kings Slam' in Saudi Arabia last week, in which he defeated Taylor Fritz in the semifinals before succumbing decisively to Sinner in the final.
The most likely hypothesis is that the six-time Grand Slam champion will also use the last Masters 1000 of 2025 as a test to evaluate his shape ahead of the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin and the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna, both scheduled for next month.
Carlitos had his first practice session on the Centre Court of the Paris tournament with Russian ace Karen Khachanov.
