Carlos Alcaraz is surprising everyone without Juan Carlos Ferrero

Carlos Alcaraz is continuing to play his best tennis in this edition of the Australian Open.

The world number 1 – who had never had a particular feeling with the Happy Slam before this year – finally managed to overcome the hurdle of the quarterfinals, where he had been eliminated in the last two editions.

The Spanish ace defeated local idol Alex de Minaur in three sets and had some difficulties only at the beginning, before dominating the match and leaving only crumbs to the Australian player. The six-time Grand Slam champion has not dropped a set so far in the tournament and will face Alexander Zverev for a spot in the final.

Many experts and former players thought that the 22-year-old from Murcia could be conditioned by the absence of Juan Carlos Ferrero, with whom he broke off the collaboration after more than seven years. However, Carlitos has shown that he is very serene so far and his game has not been subject to ups and downs.

In addition to reaching his first career semifinal at Melbourne Park, Alcaraz also qualified for his tenth semifinal at a Grand Slam tournament. Those who thought that de Minaur could put him in trouble were wrong, despite the fact that the Australian ace did everything possible to unhinge his opponent's certainties.

In his post-match interview, Alcaraz confided that he was very satisfied with his approach: “I am just really happy with the way I am playing every match since the first round until now, I think my level is increasing every match which I’m really happy about.”

The Spaniard continued: “After the first match they told me be patient, the level you want to play is going to come, and I think today I felt really comfortable playing great tennis which I’m really proud about and I’m really happy to get into the semifinals.”

The champion from Murcia wants to take a little revenge on Zverev, who defeated him at Melbourne Park two years ago.
