Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and a Major switch that could change history

by

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are entering the 2026 season with history firmly within reach.

Their domination at Majors has opened the door for a Career Grand Slam in the first half of 2026, not one but two!

This year, they switched trophies in London and New York, with Jannik dethroning Carlos at Wimbledon and the Spaniard mirroring that at the US Open. Ahead of 2026, they both possess three of four Major trophies.

In a rare and unique scenario, they could complete the quartet of the most notable titles of our sport in the first six months of the new season. Coco Wandeweghe backs them to chase history.

While not mentioning any rivals and a chance for someone to spoil their party, the American would love to see more twists in the opening months of the new season. Those would bring the ultimate tennis history to the table.

Carlos has to win the Australian Open to become the youngest owner of a Career Grand Slam at 22. The Spaniard has yet to pass the quarter-final stage in Melbourne, which remains his weakest Major.

On the other hand, Jannik will travel Down Under as the two-time defending champion and the favorite following his run at the end of 2025. Imagine what stakes the final on the Rod Laver Arena between them would carry!

Sinner, meanwhile, arrives in Paris with unfinished business after a devastating loss this June. The Italian has proven his class in the French capital and will make another push toward tennis glory this spring.

His ultimate target on that quest? The two-time champion, Alcaraz. For Vandeweghe, the idea of both players adding new chapters to their rivalry at the season's first two Majors feels inevitable.

It just remains to be seen who would endure under that massive pressure and brought the victories home. A chance for their first duel will come in Melbourne in a month.

The way they have played recently, it will be tough to see anyone stopping them from reaching their fourth straight Major final!

"I do not see why Carlos and Jannik could not both achieve a Career Grand Slam next year! It would be interesting to see the two rivals switch roles at the Australian Open and Roland Garros, as they did at Wimbledon and the US Open this year," Coco Vandeweghe said.
