Carlos Alcaraz is having the best season of his entire career and has repeatedly repeated that he has not reached his 'prime' yet. The young Spanish ace has worked his weaknesses together with his team and it is no coincidence that he has finally found that consistency that he had often lacked in the past, allowing him to overtake his main rival Jannik Sinner at the top of the ATP rankings thanks to a series of impressive victories.
The 22-year-old from Murcia has been almost unstoppable from April onwards, reaching at least the final in every event he has participated in and already breaking his personal record for victories within a single year.
The six-time Grand Slam champion has already lifted eight trophies in 2025 and is the player who has scored the most points ever in the Masters 1000, although he has missed three tournaments of this type (Madrid, Toronto and Shanghai).
Alcaraz equals Kuerten
After being the protagonist at the 'Six Kings Slam' in Saudi Arabia last week, the world number 1 has decided not to play in either Vienna or Basel and will return to action directly at the Paris Masters 1000 in the new venue. His main goals between now and the end of the season will be the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin and the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna, where he will try to drag his Spain to success after last year's disaster in Malaga.
Meanwhile, Carlitos began his 43rd week as world No.1 today and became the 14th all-time player in this special ranking. He equaled Gustavo Kuerten's record and has an excellent chance of ending 2025 at the top of the ATP rankings, as he will have to defend far fewer points than Sinner in the coming month. The 24-year-old from Sesto Pusteria plays his best tennis in indoor conditions, but he will have to defend his title at the ATP Finals and it will not be easy for him to get another overtake.
