Carlos Ulberg a way better athlete than Jon Jones

by

Dominick Reyes took another shot at Jon Jones as he looks to climb his way back to title contention.

Reyes (14-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC) meets streaking contender Carlos Ulberg (12-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) in the UFC Perth main event Sept. 27 at RAC Arena in Western Australia.

“I mean, Carlos is the best athlete I will face in the light heavyweight division,” Reyes told Submission Radio.

Better than Jones?

“Yes, way more,” Reyes said. “Way more.”

Reyes lost a controversial decision to Jones for the light heavyweight title at UFC 247 in February 2020. He went on to lose his next three fights in a row by knockout, but turned his career around with three straight wins. He finds himself on the cusp of title contention again if he can get past Ulberg.

“He moves his feet extremely well, he is very quick, he’s very powerful,” Reyes said of Ulberg. “But it’s just his movement, man. He can move. He can move like me. He’s an extremely good athlete. He’s very balanced with everything he does. He’s kind of safe – he fights very safe, kind of fights to not lose as opposed to win as he’s moved up in competition. But he’s a quality opponent.

“I’m very, very much looking forward to fighting Carlos. He’s quite the test. He’s got a great, great left hook. He’s good with that lead hand. He’s real good with that lead hand, and he’s light on his feet, and he kicks well. It’s going to be a very technical fight. I’m going to have to be very patient because he’s so patient that he will almost lose a fight. That’s how patient he is.”
