World Championships: Carson Foster Scratches 400 IM Due to Ankle Injury
As if the illness that has hampered the United States at the World Championships isnβt enough, Carson Foster revealed on social media that an ankle injury has forced him to scratch the 400-meter individual medley on the final day of the meet. Foster also scratched the final of the 200 individual medley in Singapore, and now we know the reason. Foster detailed his injury on his Instagram account.
βThe stories weβll tell one day about this meet,β Foster said. βDefinitely a frustrating way to end the season. Before the 200 IM final, I tweaked a tendon in my ankle which has made kicking and turning very difficult. Due to this, I have pulled out of the 400 IM. Despite the circumstances, I am always grateful for the opportunities to represent the U.S. One more day of competition and Iβm ready to be a cheerleader in the stands!β
Foster was the silver medalist in the 400 individual medley at the 2022 and 2023 World Championships and won bronze in the event at last summerβs Olympic Games. He was expected to once again contend for the podium, but the Team USA veteran has been bitten by the bad luck that has besieged Team USA in Southeast Asia. A majority of the American squad has dealt with a gastrointestinal illness that intially surfaced at training camp in Thailand.
With his World Championships over, Foster will now focus on recovery, and eventually return to training on the road to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Next summer, Foster will compete at the Pan Pacific Championships, scheduled to be held in Southern California.
