Norwegian tennis player Casper Ruud recently spoke about the dominance of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, believing that not much has changed in the world of tennis after the retirement of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
Although several years have passed since Federer's farewell, while Nadal ended his career last year, everything still revolves around these two names.
Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are truly dominant on the tennis scene and most do not believe that anyone can stop them.
A few names have come up as candidates who could spoil the duo's plans, but it seems they are still far from their level.
In a recent podcast interview, Casper Ruud revealed that he expected that the departure of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer would lead to the appearance of new candidates for the Grand Slam titles, but he is somewhat surprised that things have not changed significantly since the departure of this duo.
The 27-year-old hopes that in the next 5-10 years there will be many talented tennis players and that we will see many more Grand Slam champions. Ruud expects to be one of those who can cause problems for the Italian and the Spaniard, and at the moment, as he says, he is giving his maximum to reach the heights he dreams of.
“I said few years back when Roger started retiring or when Roger started like, he was the first to retire and Rafa then came after. I said that I was expecting there to be a little bit more Grand Slam champions than there has been for those 15-20 years when they were ruling and it really hasn’t because, Sinner and Alcaraz have won pretty much everything since those guys started to step down,” he said.
“But I still believe that the next 5 to 10 years we will see more Slam champions and I think there will be more guys that can challenge them and of course I hope to be one of them. I’m doing my best in practice and in my career to do so,” he concluded.
Reactions
Judging by the reactions of the fans, most are not so optimistic, and those who even believe that someone could dethrone Sinner or Alcaraz, are mostly rooting for their favorites.
Either way, let's hope that next year will bring the excitement and adrenaline.
This is the time of year when tennis players carefully analyze and try to figure out what moves they need to make to move forward. To beat Sinner and Alcaraz, it will take significantly more than we have seen from their opponents this year.
