Celtics waive JD Davison – CelticsBlog

by

The Boston Celtics announced on Thursday evening that they are waiving guard JD Davison.

Davison had spent most of the previous three seasons on a two-way contract, winning the 2025 G-League MVP.

Davison never clicked with the big club Celtics, averaging 1.9 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.9 assists in 36 games played over his three-year stint as a Celtic. He had a big season for the Maine Celtics this past year averaging 25.1 points, 7.6 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game in his MVP winning season.

The 53rd pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, Davison is just 22-years-old and has one year of two-way eligibility left, according to Spotrac’s and CelticsBlog alum Keith Smith, but it cannot come with Boston due to having spent three seasons as a two-way guy for the Celtics.

There have been a lot of Ben Simmons rumors, including one from ESPN’s Brian Windhorst that he could make a decision within the next week. However, The Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach reports that no move is imminent for Boston.

This move puts the Celtics back under the 2nd apron but that could change based on a Simmons signing or another move.
