Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapol was elected president of World Archery Asia today at the continental association’s congress in Dhaka (Bangladesh).
Chapol was an incumbent vice president of the organisation, the founding president of the Bangladesh archery federation and head of the organising committee of the upcoming Asian Archery Championships, taking place in the Bangladeshi capital next week.
He defeated Korea’s Thomas Han, who serves as World Archery Asia secretary general, in the presidential election, 29 votes to nine.
Outgoing president Chung Euisun, the chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, had held the position since 2005 and did not stand for re-election having exceeded the term limit introduced by the organisation. Chung was the third consecutive Korean president of World Archery Asia.
Chapol is the first from Bangladesh.
“I will take Bangladesh to a new level and raise Asia’s standard to world-class,” he said to the Daily Sun following the election. “We don’t want just one country to dominate Asia; we want, and I’m not the only one saying this, everyone on the committee wants every country to reach that peak of development.”

The 24th Asian Archery Championships start with qualifying on Sunday 9 November 2025 in Dhaka (Bangladesh).
