Indiana Hoosiers receiver Charlie Becker, who had four catches for 65 receiving yards in IU’s College Football Playoff championship game win against the Miami Hurricanes, starred in high school in Nashville, Tennessee, before heading to Bloomington.

Becker, who is Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza’s roommate, is the son of David Becker, a former all-state linebacker at Elder High School who helped the Panthers to a 10-0 record in the regular season in 1991.

Tennessean.com’s George Robinson wrote in 2023 that David Becker, who also played catcher for Elder’s baseball team, moved his family from Cincinnati when Charlie was in kindergarten.

Dave Becker played minor-league baseball in the Toronto Blue Jays organization, followed by one season of football for the Ohio State Buckeyes.
