As high school football head coaching hires continue to spin in the state of Alabama and another major hire was made official on Friday.
Chelsea High School (AL) has named former Gainesville (Ga.) offensive coordinator Tad Niblett as the program’s next head football coach. Niblett led a potent Red Elephants’ offense that averaged over 40 points per game en route to reaching Georgia’s Class 5A state championship game.

“My family and I are grateful for the opportunity to serve as the head football coach at Chelsea High School,” Niblett said to the Shelby County Reporter. “Chelsea is a special place with a strong sense of pride and tradition. Our vision is to create a strong, player-centered culture anchored in character, accountability and relationships. We will pour into our kids, challenging them to chase their best every day in all areas, and we will be relentless in our pursuit of greatness. Together, we will make Friday nights memorable and impactful for the entire community.”
Niblett, who is the brother of former Gainesville head coach Josh Niblett, was on many of the staffs on the offensive side of the ball. This past season in Georgia, Niblett served as the OC and quarterbacks coach for the Red Elephants.
This would not be Niblett’s first go around as a head coach in Alabama as he once led Foley from 2015-2019 and compiled an overall record of 17-34.
The Hornets ended this past season with an 5-5 record and finished ranked No. 75 in the final 2025 Alabama High School Football Massey Rankings.
