Despite achievements, fan backlash continues; she remains under contract with the Sky through 2027.
Angel Reese’s second season with the Chicago Sky was another one for the books. The former LSU Tigers star continued to establish herself as one of the WNBA’s top young stars with her strong play. She averaged 14.7 points on 45.8 percent shooting, while also leading the league in rebounds for a second year running with 12.6 boards per contest. Reese also added 3.7 assists and 1.5 steals in 31.6 minutes per game.
Reese’s campaign, however, ended on a low note. Apart from missing the last four games of the season due to a back injury, the 23-year-old was also benched by the Sky for one half after she practically threatened to leave Chicago if her objectives no longer aligned with those of the team.

Reese’s comments stirred up controversy, which ultimately led to fans wanting her to get out of Chicago. The two-time All-Star, however, apologized after realizing her mistake, and it appears that both parties have since tried to move on from the hiccup.
On Thursday, the Sky took to social media to share a recap of Reese’s second season in the WNBA. This allowed the team to make a strong statement about what was another memorable campaign for the 6-foot-3 forward.

“2025 PLAYER RECAPS: THE BARBIE EDITION a sophomore szn for the record books for A5 👑 from boards to buckets, she controlled the floor on both ends. swipe for some of our favorite A5 highlights through the szn 🎞️” the team posted on Instagram.
The Sky flexed Reese’s achievements from the previous season, which include being the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 500+ points and 500+ rebounds. The team also stated that Reese is just the 21st player ever to be named an All-Star in her first two seasons.

Based on the reactions in the comments section, however, the fans still have not forgotten about Reese’s recent issue with the team.
“FREE ANGEL we ain’t forget,” a reaction on Instagram read.
“Too late for all the fake love, free her,” said another.
“We still ain’t forget what yall did to her,” a user posted.
“The internet doesn’t forget Admin, sorry,” a comment read.
“And somehow y’all STILL played in her face 🙄” another said.
Reese is under contract with the Sky through 2027. In 2024, she signed a four-year rookie deal worth $342,383. Unless Chicago decides to trade her, Reese will remain with the Sky for at least the next two seasons.
