Christian Leroy Duncan warns of his ‘scary’ evolution

LAS VEGAS – Christian Leroy Duncan thinks he’s putting the UFC middleweight division on notice with each performance, and plans to keep doing so after another big win at UFC Fight Night 264.

Duncan (13-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) extended his winning streak to three fights, including back-to-back Performance of the Night bonuses, when he stopped Marco Tulio (14-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) by second-round TKO on Saturday at the UFC Apex, elevating his stock in the division.

The Brit entered the fight as the underdog, but he said he showed again he shouldn’t be underestimated, and thinks he’s now built enough credibility to call his shot.

“This puts up in a great position now to potentially get a top 15 fight, puts us in the rankings,” Duncan told MMA Junkie and other reporter post-fight. “If they feel it makes sense. And I feel a perfect place for that would be London in March at The O2 Arena. Home crowd. I’m looking forward to things to come.”

Duncan, 30, has found a form and style that is leading to consistent success. He’s found a home for spinning techniques in multiple of his recent fights, and that was a big part of hurting Tulio in the first and second rounds en route to the win.

He’s embracing that, and warned everyone in the 185-pound weight class that there’s much more to come.

“I find openings and I find ways the land,” Duncan said. “The spins tend to throw people off and I find ways to land within that. I noticed he leaves his right side open a lot of the time, especially when he’s attacking. It was just a target and I was able to hit it.

“I just think that the way we’re going now it’s going to be scary in another year from now. Just the level that I’m going to be at and the team is going to bring me to. This year has been a massive year. Three-fight win streak, and the performances have spoke for themselves.”
