Clemson comes up big with another ACC win taking down Pitt

by

Clemson basketball made history Saturday night with another gritty road win in ACC play.

The Tigers leaned on a breakout performance from Jestin Porter, who scored a season-high 21 points to lift the Tigers to a 73–68 win at Pittsburgh. The victory marked the first time since the ACC was founded in 1953 that Clemson has opened conference play with two straight road wins.

The win also continued a remarkable trend away from home. Clemson has now won 10 consecutive ACC road games, extending its own program record and more than doubling the previous mark.

The game itself was anything but smooth early. Pittsburgh set a physical tone, and both teams traded leads throughout the opening minutes. The Panthers found early success from beyond the arc, while Clemson focused its offense inside. R.J. Godfrey led that effort, scoring 10 points in the first half while finishing through contact in the paint. Pittsburgh took a slim 35–34 lead into halftime.

Clemson responded with energy after the break, opening the second half on a strong run. Even after the game tightened late, the Tigers found their answer. Porter knocked down two timely three-pointers in the final minutes, pushing Clemson ahead for good.

Godfrey and Nick Davidson each finished with 14 points, while Butta Johnson added 10 more to give Clemson four players in double figures.

The win was Clemson’s 14th straight over Pittsburgh and keeps the Tigers unbeaten in conference play heading into Wednesday night’s home matchup against SMU at Littlejohn Coliseum.
