Coach Wim Fissette addresses Iga Swiatek's wins vs top-10 players dropping in 2025

Coach Wim Fissette isn't concerned much by Iga Swiatek's record versus the top-10 competition in 2025 as the Belgian says the rankings constantly shift, as well as form of a certain player.

In 2024, Swiatek posted a 11-5 record in matches against fellow top-10 players. This year, the six-time Grand Slam champion barely ended with a positive record in such matches as she went 9-8.

While Swiatek managed to beat several top-10 players this season, she also suffered losses to Aryna Sabalenka (French Open SF), Coco Gauff (United Cup, Madrid SF), Elena Rybakina (WTA Finals), Jasmine Paolini (Wuhan QF) and Jessica Pegula (Bad Homburg final).

Fissette, who was hired by Swiatek in late 2024 and had his first full season with the world No. 2 in 2025, was asked to explain the drop in wins against top-10 players.

"I don't think there's a real explanation. When you play against the world's top players, it's always going to be tough. The margins are very small. It all depends on when you're playing them, what form you're in, and what form your opponents are in," Fisette told Sport.pl.

Fissette: Swiatek beat Amanda Anisimova when she wasn't top-10, then lost when she reached the top-10

To prove his point, Fissette noted that Swiatek beat Anisimova in the Wimbledon final, but then lost to the American in Cincinnati and the WTA Finals.

"Someone might be 25th in the world, like Anisimova, whom we beat in London and it seemed like the most normal victory, but before you know it, that player can become No. 4 in the world. Conversely, Iga outperformed Navarro at the Australian Open, for example, and a few months later, the American dropped out of the top 10. So it's not that important to me. It's about being consistent in your performances and beating the next opponent," the Belgian coach added.

For Swiatek, it was still a positive season, mainly because she lifted her first Wimbledon title and ensured winning at least one Grand Slam for the fourth consecutive season.
