Coco Gauff: I had to adapt to my opponents and work on my own mistakes

by

Coco Gauff had many great moments this season and during every match you could feel how much she wants to win and how much she wants to be at the very top of the WTA Tour. On her way to winning the second Grand Slam, Roland Garros, she had many obstacles, but the young tennis player showed that she really has the potential to be at the very top of the WTA structure.

Coco Gauff is one of the most dominant tennis players in the world.

In an interview with Forbes, she addressed various topics.

The 21-year-old had to make many changes during this season in order to adapt to her opponents, but also to work on her own mistakes, mostly related to the serve.

One of the key changes was parting ways with coach Matt Daly, bringing in biomechanics expert Gavin MacMillan. When asked by Forbes whether it was difficult to make such moves during the season, the American tennis player answered.

“Yeah definitely. I think getting asked the same question over and over was annoying. But I knew what to expect when I made that decision, but I made it for me at the end of the day."- she said.

In the following, the 21 year-old points out that she consulted with important figures of this sport, such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, as well as Novak Djokovic, with the desire to progress and to receive useful advice.

Advice

Judging by her performances, the advice from the Big Three was very useful, and next year Gauff is open to advice and ready to introduce new things in order to progress.

“I just think of all the players… I’ve talked to Roger [Federer] and Rafa [Nadal], and they would add things to their game just to beat the other Big Three, so Novak [Djokovic], and then they would add things to their games just to be that one person. And I feel like that’s important for me to do if I want to do as well against the other players on tour."- she concluded.
