SUNRISE, Fla. – Colby Covington doesn’t care what fans, or even his own boss, thinks of his standing in the UFC’s official welterweight rankings.
Covington’s No. 14 spot at 170 pounds was put into question by many online following a recent interview with UFC CEO Dana White in which the topic was brought up. White agreed that Covington’s presence in the top 15 was odd, sparking further criticism online.

“That’s a great point. Great point,” White said when Covington’s status was put into question. “Yes, you’re right. Great point.”
Although “Chaos” has a rich history at 170 pounds, being a former interim champion of the division, his career has seen better days – which is why White and many others questioned his standing. Covington has only fought twice in the last two years, losing both bouts. His last win came in March 2022, and yet he’s in the top 15 of a very stacked UFC welterweight division.
The 37-year-old was asked about this topic following his win over Luke Rockhold in freestyle wrestling at RAF 05 this past Saturday, and couldn’t be more unbothered by the situation.
“It really doesn’t matter what Dana White thinks of me,” Covington told MMA Junkie and other media. “I’m a world champion. I’m Donald Trump’s favorite fighter. I’m America’s champion. I’m the king of Miami. You can never take those titles away from me. Take me out of those rakings, but whatever, I’m still the biggest draw at welterweight. It makes no difference what number is next to my name. I know what I’m capable of, and I know I’m still the best fighter and wrestler on planet Earth.”
