Some college football fans aren’t happy with Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Gunner Stockton after Georgia’s 24-20 win over the Florida Gators. These vocal fans (who are a vast minority) weren’t necessarily unhappy with how Stockton played or his reaction to the game.
Instead, they are upset with Stockton for taking a knee instead of scoring a touchdown late in the fourth quarter against Auburn. Stockton could have easily scored a touchdown to make the Georgia–Florida score 31-20, but instead he opted to kneel on the one-yard line, so Georgia could run out the clock.

Georgia entered the game favored by seven points, so anybody that bet that Georgia would cover that margin ended up losing their bet. Of course, Georgia and Stockton should not care at all about bettors. Stockton made the right football play, so Georgia could finish the game without giving the ball back to Florida.
Stockton clearly showed that he’d learned his lesson from the Auburn game. In a similar situation against Auburn, Stockton dove into the end zone, which gave Auburn a chance to comeback. Auburn failed to win, but Georgia’s coaching staff wanted Stockton to down the ball at the one instead of scoring. Stockton learned his lesson and took a knee against Florida.
“We got it fixed this time, right?” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said on Stockton’s decision to take a knee. Smart is aware Stockton’s decision upset bettors. “To a lot of bettor’s dismay, we fixed it.”
