Colombia and Peru are Set for Action

Colombia and Peru are set for action. The Men’s test teams from the countries will take to the field on Saturday, October 19 for the Conmemoración Lucas Caro. The international will be played at the Estadio Cincuentenario in Medellín, Colombia.

The match comes following an agreement for the return of cross regional test matches. During the recent World Rugby General Assembly in London an arrangement was made for international competition featuring Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela.

Colombia, Peru and Venezuela are a part of Sudamérica Rugby but Mexico is not; instead, Mexico is a member of the North American governing body, Rugby Americas North. Mexico’s largest southern neighbor, Guatemala is involved in Sudamerica Rugby as are other Central American countries.

Costa Rica played in Rugby World Cup 2027 Qualifiers, doing so against Colombia and Peru in 2024. Mexico did not compete due to World Rugby limiting North American activity exclusively to the Pacific Nations Cup (PNC) and thus only to Canada and the USA.

Mexico were crowded 2025 Rugby Americas North (RAN) Champions. Las Serpientes overcame Trinidad & Tobago 45-14 in the Grand Final in June. Mexico had beaten Jamaica earlier and enjoyed wins over the Cayman Islands in 2024.

Colombia is presently ranked 42nd in the world rankings compared to Mexico in 38th, Venezuela is 77th and Peru is 79th. The Cayman Islands and Trinidad & Tobago are ranked 48th and 49th respectively. Paraguay, who regularly play vs Colombia, are ranked 34th.
