The solid, defensive, and dependable batsman played 103 Test matches for the country, with his last appearance coming in June 2023 against Australia at the Kennington Oval in London in the ICC World Test Championship Final.

Pujara scored 7195 runs in his Test career at an average of 43.60, with 19 centuries and 35 fifties. He was dropped from India’s Test team after a string of low scores and started his journey as a broadcaster during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy before announcing his retirement from the game.

Meanwhile, Iceland Cricket came up with a disgusting post on the day Pujara said goodbye to the game. In a post shared on their X handle, Iceland Cricket stated that they thought that Pujara had already retired from cricket.

“We are not going to comment on Cheteshwar Pujara’s decision to retire from Test cricket, because we thought he already was,” Iceland Cricket wrote on X.

Fans were quick to give a well-deserved bashing to Iceland Cricket for their distasteful post on the India National Cricket Team legend.

Cheteshwar Pujara deserved a farewell match: Shashi Tharoor

Meanwhile, Indian politician Shashi Tharoor paid a rich tribute to Cheteshwar Pujara via an incredible post on his official X handle.

Tharoor stated that Pujara deserved a longer run in the Indian team and a proper farewell match because of his outstanding contributions. He stated:

“I can’t help feeling a pang of regret at the retirement of @cheteshwar1. Even if it was inevitable after his recent string of exclusions from the Indian team, and even if he has nothing left to prove, he deserved a little longer in the saddle and a dignified farewell worthy of his outstanding Test career for India.

“When he was dropped, with typical gumption, he returned to the domestic scene and racked up a number of impressive scores. But the selectors had decided to move on, and one cannot blame him for deciding to throw in the toweL.”

He first caught my eye on an India A tour of England – Shashi Tharoor

Shashi Tharoor further said that he saw the greatness in Pujara 20 years ago during India A tour of England and wished him luck for the future. He stated:

“I was reading his wife’s “Diary of a Cricketer’s Wife“ and reflecting on how much it takes to achieve all that Pujara did. He first caught my eye on an India A tour of England, 20 years ago, when his consistent scoring suggested he was ready for the next level.

“The selectors agreed, he made a precocious 72 in his second innings on debut, & despite one or two setbacks thereafter, went on to become India’s Mr. Reliable at number three. He was badly missed on the last tour of Australia. All the best, @cheteshwar1 Pujara! And thank you for your years of service to Indian cricket!”
