Cutter Boley set to start vs. Eastern Michigan

by

The Kentucky Wildcats will have a new starting quarterback when they take to the field Saturday night vs. Eastern Michigan.

According to KSR’s Nick Roush, redshirt freshman Cutter Boley is expected to get the starting nod this week. Roush also reports that the incumbent Zach Calzada has not returned to practice, despite previous reports suggesting he had. Calzada suffered a shoulder injury late in the loss to Ole Miss, leaving Boley to finish out the game.

Even when Calzada was healthy, he’s rarely been able to find any sort of rhythm within Bush Hamdan’s offense. The seventh-year senior has completed just 25/53 passes for 234 yards and no touchdowns vs. one interception. His 29.3 QBR ranks 111th nationally.

However, it’s still a bit too early to tell if Calzada deserves the blame or if he’s simply a victim of a bad offensive coordinator and a highly questionable wide receiver room.

Either way, it looks like we’re going to see plenty of Cutter Boley this weekend. Given the fact that Eastern Michigan is one of the worst FBS teams in the country, this needs to be a game where Kentucky’s passing offense finally starts to show what it’s capable of becoming as the season wears on.
