Clemson coach Dabo Swinney didn’t offer many hints about what he might do differently this offseason, even after the Tigers’ 22-10 loss to Penn State on Saturday in the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium.
The defeat wrapped up a frustrating year for Clemson, which finished 7-6 after watching a long postseason run come to a stop in the Bronx. Penn State took control after halftime, taking advantage of Clemson’s lack of numbers and experience on defense, while the Tiger offense never settled into a consistent rhythm. Clemson’s run game never got going either, finishing with 25 carries for 43 yards, with Adam Randall accounting for 11 of those attempts for 35 yards.

After the game, I asked Swinney whether there was anything he might change personally as the program heads into the offseason. Swinney acknowledged there were things on his mind, but he wasn’t interested in turning that conversation into a public checklist right after the loss.
“Yeah, I’m not going to get into any of that,” Swinney said. “There’s plenty of things, but I’ll keep those to myself.”
It was a short answer, but it fit the moment, with Clemson coming off a flat performance and Swinney still processing what went wrong on a cold, snowy day. Whatever evaluations are coming, he made it clear they’ll happen behind the scenes, not at the podium minutes after the final whistle.
