Dale Earnhardt Jr. did not have the best experience while watching the NASCAR Xfinity race at Iowa. On the Dale Jr. Download podcast, Earnhardt talked about the race and the challenges of being a team owner.
“Xfinity race was kind of boring for the Junior Motorsports guys,” Dale Earnhardt Jr. said. “We had a shot at winning it. We kind of stepped on our you know what.
“This is the sucky part about being an owner is your cars running into each other. Connor [Zilisch] went down in the corner three-wide, missed the bottom, got loose and hit [Ross] Chastain, and Chastain got shoved up into [Justin] Allgaier, and Allgaier got spun out. It feels like Allgaier gets run over by his teammates at least once or twice a year.”
Earnhardt then said that every year he has had to sit with Allgaier and tell him that the younger drivers are going to make mistakes, and he’s sorry that he is getting run over by them, and they don’t take care of you. Earnhardt added that the young drivers at JR Motorsports have benefited from the work Allgaier has done.

“This is just the circumstances that happen when you got these young kids coming up through the program,” Earnhardt said. “It’s just like the Cars Tour. They are going to make mistakes, they are going to race hard, they are going to do things, they are going to get it wrong every now and then.”
JR Motorsports had five drivers compete in the Iowa race this past weekend. Chastain finished third, Zilisch finished fourth. Carson Kvapil finished ninth, Sammy Smith finished 15th and Allgaier finished 16th. After the race, Allgaier talked about getting a strong finish after he spun out.
“We fought hard with our BRANDT Professional Agriculture/Precision Build Chevrolet today,” Allgaier said. “We made a good call there at the end, but we just unfortunately didn’t get a chance to see what we could do. We’ll regroup, look ahead and aim to get that momentum back on our side next weekend in Watkins Glen.”
