The Dallas Wings are almost certainly not going to make the WNBA playoffs this season. Coming into Tuesday, they had an 8-24 record, which was the second-worst mark in the league.

They improved that record a bit by defeating the Indiana Fever, 81-80, which ended their five-game losing streak. Caitlin Clark was once again out for the Fever with a strained groin, but they have been rather competitive without her, thanks to their depth and “next woman up” mentality.
Following the victory, the Wings organization decided to have a little fun at Indiana’s expense.
Dallas Teased the Fever Following Its Win on Tuesday
On its official X account, Dallas tweaked the Fever with a clever play of words.

“next time you have a fever, please call out,” the caption read.
Although the Wings led by as many as 17 points in the fourth quarter, the game wasn’t exactly a thing of beauty for them. They had to withstand a furious rally by the Fever in the closing minutes, which included 13 unanswered points that trimmed the Wings’ lead to four with under three minutes to go.
All-Star guard Kelsey Mitchell, who missed what would’ve been the game-winning shot just before time expired, led Indiana with 24 points and went 4-of-7 from 3-point range. Sophie Cunningham and Aliyah Boston each chipped in 14 points, and Natasha Howard grabbed 12 rebounds while blocking three shots.

For the Wings, star rookie Paige Bueckers made only six of her 19 shot attempts, but she dished off eight assists. Forward Maddy Siegrist tied a career-high with 22 points, which led the Wings, and center Li Yueru scored 20 points off the bench.
Both Teams Are Heading in Different Directions
The Fever, who have an 18-15 record, likely feel they can have at least a puncher’s chance of winning the WNBA championship this season. While Clark still hasn’t returned to practice, she is progressing according to coach Stephanie White, as reported by ESPN.

The two-time All-Star hasn’t appeared in a game since July 15. But the Fever have somehow managed to pile up a decent amount of wins lately, even though guards Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald have been lost for the rest of the year due to injury.
The team has gone 6-5 since Clark suffered her latest injury and currently has the WNBA’s sixth-best record.
Meanwhile, the Wings are simply hoping for more ping-pong balls in the league’s upcoming draft lottery. The franchise once won three championships during the 2000s when it was known as the Detroit Shock, but after it moved to Tulsa for the 2010 season, it has won a total of one playoff series.
