The Dallas Wings will return to Texas on Wednesday to take on the Las Vegas Aces after a three-game road trip, which saw them lose to the Phoenix Mercury, Chicago Sky, and Indiana Fever.

In those three games, rookie sensation Paige Bueckers shot only 30 percent from deep and averaged 16.3 points and 3.7 assists. While her scoring output was solid, the Wings failed to stop their opponents, especially in the open court.

The Wings are the second-worst defensive team in the league this season so far, and a lot of their struggles have been due to a lack of slowing down their opponents.

The Wings have solid interior defenders, but when they are beaten down the court, it doesn’t matter too much.

“First things, maybe improve the transition defense,” said Li Yueru. “We still have some problems to figure out, so I think we will improve that going back home, and yeah, I think we will be better.”

Bueckers is in a position to be the floor general for the Wings for the next decade or more, and she knows that she has to be more vocal, especially on the defensive end.

“I felt like I could have done a better job keeping us all together, really emphasizing getting back in transition defense, and really calling it out more,” added Bueckers. “But there’s no skipping steps to building what we want to build here, and adversity, everybody goes through adversity. That’s why when teams win a championship, they talk about the adversity that they face to get to it.”

Against the veteran Aces, the Wings will have to be polished on both ends if they are to stand a chance and snap their losing streak.
