UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier maybe didn’t appreciate being the butt of this particular joke.
Both Cormier and UFC featherweight contender Youssef Zalal were asked if they wish they were athletic in a video posted by the UFC that was intended as a joke. Cormier, a former Olympian and two-division UFC champion, might not have ever boasted a peak physique, but he wasn’t just going to accept his athleticism being questioned.
“Come on, seriously?” Cormier responded. “That’s absolutely ridiculous. Have you seen my career? Come on. That’s so disrespectful, so disrespectful. In my prime, I had athleticism to spare. I could pass some of my athletic ability to more people on the UFC roster. I could do everything, basketball, soccer – I’ve just unlocked the fact that I’m still a pretty good soccer player – I can hit a baseball, I went to the Olympics. Like, there’s a lot of things that I did. I was the greatest athlete.”
Cormier defended his UFC light heavyweight title three times with wins over Alexander Gustafsson, Anthony Johnson, and Volkan Oezdemir. He then knocked out Stipe Miocic to claim the heavyweight title to become a two-division champion. He defended his belt once with a submission of Derrick Lewis before losing back-to-back title bouts to Miocic en route to retirement.
Put some respect on DC’s name!
