Daniel Suarez signs with Spire Motorsports for 2026 NASCAR Cup season

by

After five seasons with Trackhouse Racing, Daniel Suarez will have a new home in 2026, but he will still be with the same manufacturer. NASCAR’s top Mexican-born driver will replace Justin Haley as the driver of the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet. Suarez is the only foreign-born driver to ever secure a national-level title, winning the 2016 NASCAR Xfinity Series championship.

This will be Suarez’s fifth race team since joining the Cup Series in 2017. He has driven for Joe Gibbs Racing, Stewart-Haas Racing, Gaunt Brothers Racing, and of course Trackhouse.

Current sponsor Freeway Insurance will follow Suarez to Spire as an anchor partner.

“Spire’s growth over the last few years is quite impressive,” said Suarez in a release from the team. “That’s something I have mentioned to every single member who I have talked to at Spire Motorsports. I’m sure I’m not the only person who can see that and I’m excited to be part of it now. I know that even with the growth Spire has had the last few years, it hasn’t reached its full potential, just yet. There is a lot more out there to achieve, and I want to be part of that. I want to be part of that growth and use my experience to help my team, and the entire company continue to grow.”

Suarez was Trackhouse’s original driver when they made their 2021 debut, and has earned both of his Cup victories with the organization. The first came at Sonoma Raceway in 2022, and the second came at Atlanta Motor Speedway (now EchoPark Speedway) in 2024.

Suarez will be replaced at Trackhouse by Connor Zilisch next season, while Suarez is set to replace Haley at Spire. This year, Suarez sits 28th in the championship standings with two top fives and seven top tens, and no wins since the beginning of last year. Suarez’s season has included a lot of misfortune as well, with nine DNFs all due to crashes. One highlight was NASCAR’s visit to Mexico, where the home hero claimed an impressive NASCAR Xfinity Series win with JR Motorsports.

Haley is currently 31st in the championship standings, and has lagged behind his Spire teammates Carson Hocevar and Michael McDowell.

Spire on the rise

Spire Motorsports is a growing team, and has been close to Victory Lane multiple times this year. However, they have not won a Cup race since 2019 with Haley, which came in a rain-shortened event at Daytona. Despite that, six of the team’s 15 top fives since the 2019 season have all come this year, as well as 16 of its 40 top tens, and all three pole positions. The team has led 431 laps since entering Cup, and 233 of those have come in 2025 alone.

“I have a lot of respect for how Daniel has forged his path here and has become a mainstay in the industry and it’s easy to see how he’s done it,” said Spire Motorsports co-owner Jeff Dickerson. “He has a great attitude and never stops and we look forward to having another veteran for our organization to learn from and bring a new perspective to move the No. 7 team up the grid.”

Added Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Motorsports and fellow co-owner of Spire Motorsports: “Daniel represents exactly the kind of talent and mindset that drives TWG Motorsports and our teams forward. He’s proven he can win at the highest level and connect with fans across cultures. Bringing Daniel into Spire Motorsports reflects our commitment to building something different and unparalleled at TWG Motorsports.”
