Darryn Peterson injury update: Why top prospect is out for Kansas-UConn

by

We’re just a few weeks away from conference play in the college basketball season, and a major story thus far has surrounded the health status of Kansas freshman and projected No. 1 pick Darryn Peterson.

Peterson has missed all but two games for Kansas this season. And that trend is going to continue for at least one more game.

To start the season, Peterson was limited with what initially was called cramping, but was later diagnosed as a hamstring strain. And though Peterson missed Kansas’ impressive three-game run at the Players Era in Las Vegas, there was optimism that he would be back for Tuesday night’s showdown against fifth-ranked UConn at Allen Fieldhouse.

Head coach Bill Self confirmed on Monday that Peterson had been practicing and looking good. It would just depend on how he felt Tuesday morning for a definitive answer. Come Tuesday morning, that answer was yet another missed game.

In the two games he did play, Peterson looked phenomenal, averaging 21.5 points on 60 percent shooting. We’ll have to see if the heralded prospect will be able to make his return on Sunday against rival Missouri.
