David Otunga Says The Rock’s Final Boss Character Should Only Return With a Real Story

David Otunga has made it clear that The Rock should only return as the Final Boss if there’s an actual story to go along with it.

While speaking on Inside the Ring, David Otunga was asked about The Rock’s “Final Boss” storyline and whether WWE should revisit it. He explained that if the idea ever returns, it has to come back with a real ending. Otherwise, he’s fine with letting it go and starting something new whenever The Rock eventually appears again.

“No, I think — well, I think if it comes back, it needs to have a resolution. Yeah. So I think it should come back for that reason.

But if we’re not going to get a resolution, I’ll let that go — and then whenever Dwayne comes back, whatever that capacity is, maybe start something fresh. But yeah, I liked it, too.”

Otunga also pointed out that many fans felt the tease of the “Final Boss” may have hurt WrestleMania, since the build suggested a big payoff that never really happened. The expectation was there, but the moment never happened, which made the whole setup feel like it backfired.

“But I think I see there’s the whole situation of — did that harm WrestleMania? Because there was the buildup and then the final boss wasn’t there. Everybody was expecting to see that. So that’s what I’m saying — it’s almost like it’s too good to tease people with, because it did more harm than good then.”

Otunga’s view is that the concept could still be great, but only if WWE commits to a legitimate story and finishes it properly.

“Like, if it comes back, let’s have a legitimate story with this. I think it could be awesome — but let’s have some kind of resolution here. Let’s fully finish this.”

This comes after Cody Rhodes recently stated that the Rock’s “Final Boss” character isn’t finished just yet. Nonetheless, the Rock’s future in WWE remains uncertain, and as of now, it looks unlikely that the Final Boss will return to WWE television anytime soon. Therefore, fans will have to wait and see if that changes somewhere down the line.
