Keegan Bradley, the captain of the American team, wanted his team to win on home soil and it seemed that they had a good foundation for that. However, the Europeans came out furious and immediately showed that the American would have a tough job.
Immediately after the tournament ended and after the convincing victory of the Europeans, the public and important figures in the golf scene analyzed Keegan Bradley's moves and his role. Even before the tournament began, the public was skeptical about Bradley and how much he could really help the team.
In an interview with the media, Davis Love III spoke about Keegan Bradley and his role, as well as who could succeed him at the next edition of the Ryder Cup. He believes that Brandt Snedeker could be important in the future role of the team and possibly succeed Bradley.
“Brandt did everything he could to get those players ready. The players know that. A lot of those players inside the team room tell me they have never tried so hard for their captain, Keegan Bradley. So part of the problem is that they were trying too hard.
“But I think Brandt’s leadership. Webb Simpson is an unbelievable leader on and off the golf course. We have good people in there.
“I think behind the scenes, whatever Tiger [Woods] does, or Davis does, or Steve Stricker does, we need to do a behind-the-scenes and give the next group a little bit more information and support. But I was excited about everything at Bethpage, except from the final score.”- he said, as quoted by The Golfing Gazette.
The pressure
You could feel that the American team was too eager to win and that the pressure on them was enormous. In such an atmosphere, it is difficult to expect them to produce a positive result. Although home curse advantage is a big thing in the Ryder Cup, it seems that the media and the public are putting additional pressure on the American team.
The Europeans knew how to use it this year, but in two years they will be the favorites because they are playing on home court, and we will see if the American team can take advantage of that.
