Deion Sanders said that he’s been spending more time at Colorado’s football facility after the team’s 53-7 loss to Utah on Saturday.
It was the worst defeat for the Buffaloes since Sanders became a head coach, surpassing the team’s 56-14 defeat at Washington State late in the 2023 season. Colorado (3-5) trailed 43-0 at halftime and didn’t score until there was 9:03 remaining in the game.

When asked during his weekly news conference about what holding himself accountable meant, Sanders said that he has to be satisfied with what he’s giving the school and that “you check everything in the house.”
“I feel the worst,” Sanders said. I haven’t been home yet. I’ve been here every night since. I haven’t been home yet. So that’s how much I care, that’s how much I love it, that’s how much I embody this university, this school, what they’ve done for us, the fanbase, they come and sell out … and they have an expectation. Which we’ve created. So we want to appease them because this is a wonderful place to live, wonderful place to play the game and I don’t know why our young men wouldn’t want to go out there and give it his all.”
After the game, Sanders noted how Utah’s blitz had dominated Colorado’s offense. QBs Kaidon Salter and Ryan Staub combined to go 13-of-30 passing for 102 yards — Salter was 9-of-22 for 37 yards — and Utah had seven sacks.
The Colorado defense, meanwhile, gave up 422 rushing yards as Utah averaged over eight yards a carry and ran for four scores.
The loss came two weeks after the Buffaloes took down then-No. 22 Iowa State at home.
“It was one of those days where it just didn’t work. You got your butt kicked. Don’t sugarcoat it, don’t placate it, it is what it is,” Sanders said of the Utah game. “And guess what? Let’s flush the darn toilet. And let’s move on. And that’s what we’ve done. We’ve flushed the toilet and moved on. Because going back from Iowa State and what we just did — that’s two different teams. That’s two different teams with us, not them. Forget the opponent. That’s two different things that you saw. Now we’ve got to get back to that former team and improve on that. And we’re very much capable.”
The Buffaloes take on Arizona at home in Week 10 as they need to win three of their final four games to be bowl eligible. After Arizona, Colorado has games against West Virginia, Arizona State and Kansas State.
