Dennis Schroder Named MVP as Germany Defeat Turkiye in EuroBasket Final

Dennis Schroder has been in big moments before, from the NBA conference finals to the Olympic stage.

On Sunday, he reminded everyone why he thrives when the pressure peaks.

With the EuroBasket championship hanging in the balance, Schroder scored the game’s final six points to lift Germany past Türkiye.

The Sacramento Kings guard closed with 16 points and 12 assists, securing the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award.

“We never shy away from the big moments. … Everybody is so confident,” Schroder said postgame, via the Associated Press. “Just big-time plays from big-time character people.”

A few days before Germany’s gold medal, ESPN’s Tim Bontemps said this about Schroder: “When you look at Dennis Schröder’s international career, I think if they win this tournament, he’s going to make the Hall of Fame eventually as an international entry, which will, I’m sure, cause people to go crazy,” Tim added. “But he’s got a pretty damn good international resume if they win this thing.”

Germany’s strength was not just Schroder. Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner poured in 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds, his teammate Tristan Da Silva added 13, and Isaac Bonga led the way with 20.

The reigning World Cup champions followed up their fourth-place finish in Paris with another piece of silverware, proving they remain one of the best teams in international basketball.

Türkiye battled hard behind a breakout performance from Alperen Sengun. The Houston Rockets center capped off a stellar tournament with 28 points.

Earlier in the day, Giannis Antetokounmpo carried Greece to the bronze medal, posting 30 points and 17 rebounds against Finland.

The All-EuroBasket first team was loaded with star power: Antetokounmpo, Sengun, Schroder, Wagner and Slovenia’s Luka Doncic.

For Schroder, the MVP trophy was another reminder of his leadership. For Germany, it was confirmation that the golden run is still alive.
